A coupling or bringing together of contraries, but not in order to oppose them to one another

reminds me of synechdoche

obviously not the same, yet but has that ring to it

so a combination of the two ideas, is to take parts of different ideas to bring them together, yet not to have them oppose one another.

could a single Democrat and a single Republican, representing their "types", be brought together in all their glorious contrariness without having one oppose the other ?
